Police seek information on failed betting shop robbery

LANCASHIRE Police is appealing for information following an attempted robbery at a betting shop in Ribbleton.

It happened at around 11.50am on Sunday, October 4 when two men entered Betfred on Watling Street Road. Police say the men approached the counter and threatened a member of staff with a large knife.

A police spokesman said: “When the member of staff refused to hand over any money, one of them has jumped on to the counter and made further demands for money. The victim managed to push him back before both men ran from the scene across the road and towards the local estate.”

The first man is described as white, approximately 5ft 8in tall and was wearing a black shiny bomber jacket, dark blue jeans and a black shiny baseball cap with a black and white chequered scarf covering his face.

The second man is described as approximately 5ft 3in tall and was dressed in black.

DC Caroline Turley of Preston CID said: “This must have been a terrifying experience for the member of staff inside the betting shop and thankfully no one was injured and no money was taken. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have seen what happened to contact us.”
