Police are appealing for information after a 69 year old woman was robbed on Blackpool promenade.

The incident took place at around 10.15pm on Wednesday September 24 when the woman was sitting in a tram shelter opposite the Savoy Hotel.

It is believed an offender reached under the Perspex shelter and grabbed the victim’s handbag, which contained an iPad and other personal items.

The offender was then seen running into Gynn Square Park where he discarded the bag in a bin. It is believed that he spoke briefly to a woman in the park before running off.

The offender is described as a white male, 5ft 6in to 5ft 7in tall, slim build, wearing a hooded top, dark bottoms and trainers.

DC Neil Smith of Blackpool Police said: “This is a shocking incident involving an elderly woman who was visiting Blackpool with her daughter in law to see the illuminations. The iPad contained photos which are of sentimental value to her and I would urge anyone who has any information about this incident to contact us.

“I am particularly keen to trace a dog walker who we believe may have seen the offender in the park and I would urge them to come forward.”

Anyone with information can contact Lancashire Police on 101.
