A pensioner died after a motorway crash involving three cars.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after the 82-year-old woman died following the collision on the M55 near Kirkham on Thursday night.
The incident, which involved a Hyundai Getz, a Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Zafira, happened near to junction three of the eastbound carriageway of the motorway at around 7.20pm.
The cause of the crash is unclear at this time and officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened and has not yet spoken to the police to come forward.
The driver of the Hyundai Getz, Jean Watson, from Horwich, near Bolton, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries, but she passed away a short time later.
The passenger in the Hyundai Getz, another woman in her 80s, suffered a broken arm and other injuries in the collision.
The male driver of the Ford Focus suffered whiplash and shock related injuries.
Sergeant Mick Young, from the Force Road Policing Unit, said: “An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the collision and I would appeal to any witnesses to the collision to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
The road was closed for more than seven hours while an investigation took place.
