A woman who punched a police officer as her partner was arrested in a hotel on suspicion of burglary has appeared in court.
Adele Costello, 32, also known as Adele France, lunged at officers who burst into her room at the Clifton Hotel on Fishergate Hill, Preston, in a morning swoop, Preston Magistrates Court heard.
Prosecuting, Martine Connah said officers had raided a room at the premises at 9.40am on May 13.
She said: “This defendant tried to intervene.
“She then told officers she was in discomfort from a recent miscarriage.
“They let go and at that point she lunged at officers.”
The court heard she punched PC Carl Ingram, a neighbourhood officer, in the mouth.
Another officer suffered a cut on his hand as he tried to handcuff her.
Defending, John Rimmer said: “Miss Frances is a lady who does not have her troubles to seek.
“She is described as having mental illness. She has had extensive contact with community psychiatric services.
“She has been reliant on benefits for some time. She’s not a lady who has been able to hold down any sort of regular employment. She has been a consumer of street drugs when not in contact with the community drugs team.”
Costello, now of Hendon Place, Savick, Preston, admitted assaulting a police officer.
She has five other convictions for assaulting police officers on her record of 48 offences, the bench heard.
She was sentenced to a three month community order and a three month curfew. No compensation was ordered.
It is understood her partner, Desmond Oldham, 37, is now facing burglary charges.
