Man believed to be from the Preston area dies after crash in Cumbria

A 26-year-old man believed to be from the Preston area has died following a crash near Ulverston, Cumbria.

Police were called at 10.10am this morning to the collision at the Gawthwaite junction, A5092, which involved a HGV and a van.

The driver of the van, who is believed to be from the Preston area, was taken to Furness General Hospital where he later died.

The driver of the HGV, a 36-year-old man from Merseyside, suffered minor injuries.

The road remains closed between Lowick Green and Grizebeck as officers conduct collision investigation work. It is not expected to re-open until the early evening.

The family of the man is being supported by specially trained officers.
