A man has admitted brandishing a lump hammer in a Preston takeaway as a worker was assaulted by another man.
Employee Naiem Abbas was behind the counter of Yum Yums Pizza place on Lancaster Road in the city when two men burst in and attacked him, Preston Magistrates’ Court heard.
It followed an earlier argument with a third man who threatened to “sort him out”.
One of the men, Shabaz Nawaz, 31, of Edith Street, Blackburn, admitted actual bodily harm and possession of a weapon in connection with the attack, which happened on November 14.
Prosecuting, Peter Bardlsey said: “ The victim, Mr Abbas, works in the takeaway.
“There was an argument with another man, a Mr Khan. He said he would get people to sort him out.
“Half an hour later two men came into the takeaway. The defendant and another man and the defendant had brought with him a lump hammer and between them they assaulted Mr Abbas.”
The bench was shown shocking CCTV of the moment he climbed on the counter and brandished the tool at the victim.
Mr Bardsley added: “Mr Abbas went to hospital. He said he had injuries including lumps to his head and neck. This is an assault where a large hammer had been present.”
Defending, Damien Pickup said: “It’s very sad to see Mr Nawaz before the court. He is a family man with two young children.
“He fully accepts having possession of the hammer, but the complainant confirms the injuries were caused by his contact with the other man.”
Nawaz had his case committed to Preston crown Court for sentence and he will appear on January 12.
