A love triangle is believed to be at the centre of a murder inquiry in a quiet residential street.

A 25-year-old man, named locally as Adam Wilson, was found with a serious stab wound following a disturbance at a semi-detached house in Albrighton Crescent, Lostock Hall, late on Monday night.

Detectives believe the victim was at his girlfriend’s house when an ex-boyfriend turned up before 11pm. A disturbance broke out and Mr Wilson was later found with serious injuries, police said. He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A 21-year-old man, who has not been named, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Today, neighbours said they had been left “shocked” and “upset” by the incident.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “I have lived here for a long time and there’s never been anything like this.

“It is quite upsetting. I have never seen so many police cars. We never have any problems. It is such a quiet, nice road.”

Another neighbour said: “There were at least 10 police cars in this street and more police vehicles round the back.

“It is usually so quiet. We have little things, but nothing like this.”

Crime scene investigators and police remained at the scene for most of the day yesterday. The curtains at the property were drawn and police tape surrounded the front of the house.

A police cordon was also set up at the end of the driveway of a house on Aldwych Drive, which backs onto Albrighton Crescent.

It is understood a woman and two children have lived at the house for about six months but neighbours said they kept themselves to themselves.

Lostock Hall Coun Kathleen Beattie said: “I am very shocked that this has happened in this area. It’s a very quiet estate.

“The (police) helicopter was up all night.”

In a statement, Lancashire Police said: “Police were called to Albrighton Crescent at 11pm on Monday night to a report of a disturbance

“Police and paramedics attended and found a 25-year-old man with serious injuries.

“He was taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital where he was later sadly pronounced deceased.

“A post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

“A 21-year-old man was located near to the scene and arrested on suspicion of murder.”

Last night tribute pieces to Mr Wilson were posted online, with many saying ‘RIP.’
