A 25-year-old man has undergone surgery on a badly gashed thumb after being attacked with a machete in Preston.
Police say the victim was also treated for slight cuts to his legs after the incident on New Year’s Eve at a house in New Rough Hey, Ingol.
“The offender fled the scene before officers arrived,” said a police spokesman. “We are appealing for anyone who may have either witnessed this incident or has any information about it to contact us.”
Paramedics who were called to treat the man reported he had been attacked after an argument involving four men inside the house at around 10 o’clock in the evening.
Initial reports said the weapon was a meat cleaver, but police now believe it was a machete. “Our enquiries are continuing,” said the police spokesman.
“The victim needed an operation to repair the damage. If anyone can help please contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
