A scooter rider who came off his moped while under the influence of alcohol told a court he mistakenly set off for work hours earlier than he needed to.

Mark Sutton, 54, off Gill Lane, Walmer Bridge, ended up underneath his red Goldenbee scooter on Hugh Barn Lane, New Longton, near Preston, on November 22 last year and was treated in hospital.

Prosecuting at Preston Magistrates’ Court, Phillippa Jones said a blood test revealed he was over the legal limit.

Defending, Steve Scott said he had been drinking in his home while watching a film the night before and did not think he would still be over the limit.

The Baxi worker was given a £305 fine, a 12 month ban, and was ordered to pay a £30 surcharge and £85 court costs.
