A road was closed overnight amid safety fears after a car crashed into the wall of a house in Wyre.

The police helicopter was called to assist officers searching for the driver after he fled the scene in the early hours of Saturday.

Two passengers were treated by paramedics for their injuries following the collision on Park Lane, in Preesall.

Firefighters were also called to assess the safety of the house but the road was left closed overnight after they struggled to make the building safe.

It is understood police have identified the driver of the car but he has not yet been found.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 12.30am on Saturday after a car had gone into the wall of a house.

“There was lots of debris on the road and the fire brigade was called to assess the structural damage.

“The driver of the car made off and that’s when the helicopter was called out.

“The front passenger suffered seatbelt-type injuries while the rear passenger had minor back injuries.”

A spokesman for National Police Air Service Warton confirmed the helicopter had been called out at 12.55am.

Inquiries are ongoing.
