A professional footballer who missed a turn while following his satnav caused a crash in which another driver was injured, a court heard.

Former Blackpool player Neal Bishop, of Wrea Green, near Preston, was carrying out an illegal U-turn at the time of the accident at Clifton.

Bishop, 33, of New Manor House, Manor Way, was found guilty of driving without due care and attention after a trial in his absence.

The Scunthorpe player’s case was adjourned for him to appear at court, to show why he should not be disqualified from driving by District Judge Tom Moran at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Tom Sweeney, prosecuting, said Bishop was driving a Mercedes C200 on Preston New Road, approaching the junction with Clifton Business Park. He said Bishop missed his turn so he decided to do a u-turn. He ignored a red light to turn right across the central reservation into the path of a Volkswagen Golf.
