A 29-year-old man has been charged after a flare was set off at the FA Cup tie between Preston North End and Manchester United on Monday.
Stuart Pike, of Church Mews, Bamber Bridge faces allegations of possessing a firework/flare at a sporting event and throwing a missile onto the pitch.
He is due to appear before Preston Magistrates on Tuesday March 3.
North End could face sanctions by the Football Association following the incident which happened as players and fans celebrated Scott Laird’s opening goal against the soccer giants.
There was a slight delay to the game’s restart as a result of the smoke.
