A disgruntled waiter has been fined and ordered to pay compensation after going back to his former restaurant and helping himself to £170 out of the till.

Marcus Hindle, 24, of East View, Deepdale, Preston, worked for Tang on Fylde Road, Ashton.

Preston magistrates heard he and the manager did not get along.

Defending, Sephton Lee said following his father’s death, Hindle’s work suffered and the restaurant let him go.

However he was seen by a cleaner returning to the restaurant on three occasions, taking cash from the till.

Hindle claimed he was owed wages which the restaurant disputed.

The court heard he had already been given a conditional caution for the theft with the condition to pay back the cash, but it was not returned.

Hindle must pay a £100 fine, £170 compensation, a £20 surcharge and £85 costs.
