Children's home abuse accused appears in court

A man accused of abuse at a children's home has indicated not guilty pleas to magistrates.

Christopher Hartley, 56, of Denham Avenue, Warrington, was summonsed to Preston Magistrates’ Court where he stands accused of a catalogue of historic sex offences, which allegedly occurred at the Harris Children’s Home in Preston.

He is accused of seven counts of indecent assault and four counts of inciting a girl to commit an act of gross indecency.

The alleged offences are said to have been committed between 1972 and 1978 and involved four female victims aged between eight and 16 years old at the time.

The home, which was on Garstang Road, closed in 1982.

A district judge committed the case to be heard at Preston Crown Court where he will appear on March 28 for a hearing.
