Thieves who ransacked a house in Walton-le-Dale pocketed precious war medals awarded to heroes in the First World War.

The two medals were stolen in a raid just days before Remembrance Day, along with more than £10,000 of property including laptops, speakers, a sat nav, jewellery, watches and two designer handbags

The medals were engraved with the names “Charles Wheddon” and “James Edward Nicholas”.

Burglars who targeted the house in Walton-le-Dale, Lancs., also took laptops, speakers, jewellery, watches and designer handbags.

PC Graham Swain from Lancashire Constabulary said: “The medals are of great sentimental value to the victim who has understandably been left very upset by this burglary.

“I am appealing to anyone, especially local residents who may have seen anything suspicious around the time of the burglary to contact us with any information they may have.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lancashire Police.
