Baby boy murder charges

A teenage couple have been charged with the murder of a four-month-old baby boy.

Christopher Roberts, 18, and Karen Irvine, 18, were charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child by detectives last night.

Both have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Lancaster Magistrates Court today.

Police have not disclosed the name of the dead child.

It is believed Irvine was the boy’s mother.

The baby was admitted to Royal Lancaster Infirmary on November 17 last year having been found collapsed at his home address in the Scotforth area of Lancaster.

His was transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool with a bleed to the brain but died a few days later.

Roberts, 18, of Great Dockray, Penrith and Irvine, of Lark Field, Penrith, will appear in court today.
