A man threw eggs at his ex-girlfriend’s house then tore the head off her pet parrot.

Steve Froggatt, 58, targeted the woman’s house in Deepdale, Preston, after the pair had separated. The woman, who has recently been treated for cancer, returned home from a night out to find eggs had been thrown all over the outside of her house.

She went inside and found African Grey parrot Deano’s cage empty and his feathers all over the floor.

When she confronted Froggatt with a text saying: “Why have you killed my bird?” she claims he simply replied: “You killed me.”

Former brewery worker Froggatt, 58 , of Tag Croft, Tanterton, has pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage relating to Deano and damaging brickwork at her home.

When the retired nurse called time on the relationship she allowed him to keep a key so he could collect his possessions.

It is understood he used the key to kill the pet.

Froggatt reportedly admitted to police he “necked” the bird and pulled its head off because it was “annoying”.

Deano’s body has never been found.

Froggatt, who is currently remanded in custody, pleaded guilty at Preston Magistrates’ Court to criminal damage and is next due to appear before magistrates on Tuesday, October 7.
