A LANCASHIRE council has been given a four star rating for its website.
Preston Council has been recognised after its website underwent its annual testing by Society of Information Technology Management (SOCITM).
The council is the only authority in the county to be given the four star rating.
The website was also tested on a mobile device and passed the task which is important because visits to the council website from mobile devices are on the rise with just over 55% of visits to the website being from phones and tablets.
Web manager at the council Melanie Moville said: “The website is available 24 hours a day and residents can serve themselves, paying council tax, booking leisure classes and informing us of changes for housing benefit and council tax claims online, meaning they don’t have to call up or visit the Town Hall.
“It is excellent to receive the 4 star rating for our website as well as being the most accessible.
“Work now, starts to keep the 4 star rating next year.”
Council leader Coun Peter Rankin added: “This is a great achievement for the council and also for the people of Preston.
“It is great that anyone can now easily access our services through the website even when out and about on their mobiles.”
Three other councils in the North West were given a four star rating. They are: Carlisle City, Cumbria County Council and Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council
SOCITM carries out tests on all local authority websites in terms of usability, usage, accessibility and the mobile experience.. The results will be published in SOCTIM’s Better Connected report.
