Enforcement chiefs and police are to be asked to investigate reports of speeding on a Preston road.

County Coun Michael Welsh, county councillor for Preston North East, which covers the Fulwood area, has received numerous complaints about speeding in Levensgarth Avenue, Fulwood, which is covered by County Hall’s new 20mph scheme for residential roads across the county.

Coun Welsh said: “During a recent walkabout, numbers of residents on Levensgarth Avenue raised issues involving speeding traffic and the enforcement of the 20 mph speed zone.

“I raised the matter with Paul Binks who is in charge of the 20 mph program.”

In his letter he raised particular concerns that taxis were ignoring the new 20mph limit.

A response received by Coun Welsh from Jo Turnton, executive director for the environment, said: “The 20’s team have started engagement work in the area and I will ask them to raise this issue with the local constabulary, who I feel are in a more appropriate position to deal with the issue.”
