Company invited dead woman to discuss account

For the family of Preston woman Rachel Clear, losing her at the age of 31 after a long battle with cancer was devastating enough.

But days later they faced further heartache when electricity giant Powergen sent Miss Clear a letter – even though they knew she had died.

Rachel died at St Catherine's Hospice, six months after she was diagnosed with myoxid liposarcoma, a form of spinal cancer.

Her parents wrote to Powergen, explaining their loss and asking them to close the account.

They were left staggered when the company then sent a letter addressed to 'Rachel Clear Deceased', thanking her for her custom and asking her to call if she wished to discuss her account.

The family were also chased for money by the Student Loans Company.

Rachel's mum Anne Cook from Ashton, said: "It is distressing because you are just starting to pick yourself up and it just brings it all back again.

"They should be better trained. When you get these things you have not got over what has gone on. It is very difficult."
