A keen fundraiser who has taken part in St Catherine’s Hospice’s biggest charity event every year since it began is looking forward to stepping out again in 2014.
Avril Henrys signed up for the hospice’s first ever Moonlight and Memories Walk in 2007 and has returned every year since to show her support - raising more than £2,000 in sponsorship in the process.
Now she is gearing up for what the hospice is dubbing a Night to Remember - when the eighth annual Moonlight and Memories Walk takes place again on Saturday June 7.
This year Avril, from Kirkham, will be walking in memory of her best friend who died last year.
The 66-year-old said: “We actually did the first walk together back in 2007 so it seems very fitting to take part in her memory this year.
“The section of the walk which comes through the hospice grounds is the most powerful - I always get goose-bumps. It’s that complete silence and the chance to really think about what you are doing and why - being there really brings it home.”
The hospice is encouraging the whole community to get involved in tribute to someone special - striding out for either 13.1 or 8.4 miles with the name or a photograph of their loved one proudly displayed on their T-shirt.
To sign up for the walk call 01772 695290. Registration is £16. Participants are encouraged to raise as much money as possible to help the hospice.
