Talented teenage singer Cody Frost has made it through the blind audition of BBC’s ‘The Voice’ tonight with a stunning performance that had three of the judges on their feet applauding.

The 17-year-old had three judges - Boy George, Paloma Faith and Ricky Wilson - battling for her after an emotional performance of ABBA’s ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’ and was the first contestant to choose Boy George as her mentor.

The former Blessed Trinity pupil, who now lives in Nelson after moving from Burnley, decided to put her faith in Boy George, who has sold 100,000,000 singles and 50,000,000 albums during his 30-year career and started his first season on the hit BBC show tonight.

The TV audience was shown clips of Cody at home in Nelson with her mother and little sister in what she described as their “mad house”, before she was quizzed on her individual style which she described at the time as “failed punk”.

“I like to be different, that’s how you get your voice heard,” Cody told host Marvin Humes. “It’s by far the biggest thing I’ve done in my life.”

Boy George, who was described as a music icon and styled himself “the other Queen of England” on the show, initially told producers he was looking to find another Amy Winehouse or David Bowie, saying he likes “all sorts of voices”.

He told Cody she had an “80s vibe” with her choice of outfit and described her song as “emotional”. After Cody chose him as her mentor, a jubilant George announced: “I can relax now, I’ve got someone good!”

He added: ”I’m so happy. She’s do good!”

Busker Cody also received praise from the other judges, with will.i.am describing her as “awesome”, as well as “stylish and fresh” while Ricky said he felt he had really got to know her quickly during her 90-second performance.

Paloma felt Cody was “so cool” and said her performance had made her emotional. “I really heard your heart,” she said. “I 100% believe you should be massive in the music business because that was so beautiful.”
