A hairdresser has made the cut by being named among the best in the business.
John Monks of the Gents Room Barbershop at Jo and Cass Hair and Beauty Salon in Preston was one of six short listed in the Best Gents Stylist category at the English Hair and Beauty Awards.
The third annual Fake Bake hair and beauty awards were hosted at the Manchester Mercure Picadilly Hotel.
John missed out on the top honour but was overjoyed to be nominated against stylists from Luton, Newcastle and Enfield for such a prestigious award.
He said: “I was gutted not to win but the Gents Room has only been up and running for two years and the other nominees are all from established salons.
“So it is a big honour to be nominated.
“To be in the top six nationally is an achievement in itself and it was a great night.”
John’s salon the Gents Room Barbershop is situated inside the Jo and Cass Salon, in Fishergate and specialises in male grooming.
The hairdresser lives in Fulwood and John was overwhelmed to be considered for a national prize.
He said: “I was shocked when I found out we were nominated and surprised to be one of the top six.
“But we’ve worked hard and it is nice to be recognised and maybe next year we can win it.”
Rachel Brown of event organisers Creative Oceanic said: “The competition was heated this year as we had finalists from all over England.”
