Clean up at nature spot

Deepdale councillor Terry Cartwright

A clean-up will take place along a belt of green land next week.

A group of volunteers will cut back trees, remove litter and install bird boxes on land known as The Happy Valley, which runs alongside Eaves Brook in Deepdale, Preston.

The improvements are being paid for by British Land, the owner of the nearby Deepdale Shopping Park, and Preston Council.

Deepdale councillor Terry Cartwright will also join the work after years of calling for improvements.

He said: “I have long been campaigning for improvements to the valley, and I thank Colin and his team for their enthusiasm in moving my vision a step closer.”

Park manager Colin Gilligan said he had convinced a number of colleagues, including staff from shops on the park, to join the clear up.

The bird boxes being installed have been made by primary school pupils at Holme Slack and St Gregory’s in Deepdale.
