Designer dresses, handbags any girl would give her right arm for and top notch shoes.

These are just some of the items flying off the shelves at Penwortham’s newest... charity shop.

The ladies boutique opened by St Catherine’s Hospice is billed a “new concept store” and is anything but the traditional recycling- your-old-clothes type shop.

This shop, in Priory Lane, specialises in up-market names and high-end high street garments and accessories , as well as authentic vintage pieces, and although it has only been open a few weeks has already got a loyal following.

And, it is no wonder. It won’t take a discerning eye to spot the bargains on offer.

Manager Sam Jones said: “We have been really fortunate to get some fantastic donations such as a DKNY dress (which sold for £12). It was a gorgeous navy blue and we have had some lovely bags and dresses which were brand new.

“We were given a lovely Laura Ashley dress which was brand new with the £110 label still on it which we sold for £10, a gorgeous dress from Wallis which was £150 and had the price label still in it.

We’ve had some fantastic items - really good brand bags too - but we don’t price them too high because we want shopping here to be an experience

“The idea is for people to come into the boutique and be pleased they have got a bargain.”

It’s not just the designer brands that are bringing in the coffers for the Lostock Hall-based charity.

Sam added: “ We have some amazing items on sale from the likes of DKNY, French Connection, Hobbs and Coast, as well as quality high street pieces from places like Wallis, Topshop, Next and Per Una.

Whether you’ve got a special occasion coming up or just fancy treating yourself, we’re sure we’ve got something to tempt you - all in the knowledge you’re helping local families when it really matters most.”

In keeping with it’s “high class” image, the shop was officially opened by the Mayor of Penwortham, Coun Susan Prynn.

She said: “The quality and range of items on sale is fantastic, and the best bit is that customers can treat themselves whilst raising funds for a great cause. St Catherine’s carries out such important work in the local area - I hope the people of Penwortham get behind this shop to Ensure it’s a great success, whether that be through shopping in store or donating their pre-loved goods to be sold there.”

The shop may have only been open for business for a month but it already has many loyal customers.

Lynn Harvey, who lives in the village, is already a regular face at the store.

“Right from the opening day it became a hub for the local community.

“Each time I have been in I’ve seen someone I know which is lovely. The shop is beautiful – it’s really nice to have a browse and a chat and see what you might pick up. I’ve bought a tunic and my daughter got the most gorgeous dress from there.”
