A former WWE superstar is set to throw his weight behind this year’s Armed Forces Day celebrations.
It has been revealed that American muscleman Chris Masters will headline the free wrestling show in Preston’s Flag Market as part of the big day. He will be joined by another ex-WWE star, Carlito, in what organisers hope to be a “spectacular” event.
Chris said: “Through my time in professional wrestling I’ve been to Iraq and Afghanistan and some things are bigger than yourself.
“It’s showing honour to people who have been at war or anything of that nature.
“I like being involved in things like that and I know those experiences were the most fulfilling.”
He added: “I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be a great atmosphere, there’s going to be a ton of people out and it’s going to be a blast.”
The wrestling show for Armed Forces Day is being organised by Steven Fludder of Preston City Wrestling.
He said: “It’s great to give back to Preston and do something in my home town. It’s a great feeling to be able to put on a display of what I do.
“It’s free to all, and we’ve got nothing less than the best.”
Armed Forces Day will be marked on June 28, with celebrations kicking off in Preston at 10am and the wresting show starting at 2pm.
Coun Drew Gale, Preston Council’s armed forces champion, said he was “incredibly excited” about the show.
He said: “It will be spectacular, with a wonderful backdrop, all to pay tribute to our brave men and women.”
He added: “It is our opportunity to show our appreciation and our affection for our armed forces – not just the veterans but the thousands who are serving and also their families who are supporting them.”
