Chorley actor Ken Morley really is living life in front of the lens after entering the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Best known for his role as Reg Holdsworth on Coronation Street, he is among the celebrities taking part in the latest series of the popular reality show, which started on Wednesday on Channel 5.

Viewers heard Ken, who lives in Whittle-le-Woods, describe himself as “fun to be with, kind and hopefully amusing” and he admitted that he has a “volatile” temper.

He said his motto is “party until you drop” and danced for the crowd before going into the famous house.

He sang as he approached the main living area, where he met actress Patsy Kensit and American blogger Perez Hilton, who were already inside.

Other celebrities to join them were: controversial Apprentice star Katie Hopkins, TV presenter Keith Chegwin, actress and presenter Nadia Sawalha, model Alicia Douvall, footballer George Best’s son Calum, Venezuelan model Cami Li, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s body double Chloe Goodman, 1990s pop star Kavana, American soul singer Alexander O’Neal, former Baywatch star Jeremy Jackson and American reality star Michelle Visage.

The house has been redesigned this year and has a twisted fairytale theme.

The housemates will live in front of the cameras either until the final, when the winner is announced, or until they are voted out.

But Ken has no dreams of reaching the final.

He said: “I’m not interested in winning it, really. I like to participate and enjoy the experience – it’s an irrelevance to me when I leave.

“I’ve done one or two cooking shows and been kicked off at the first stage and they said, ‘Why are you smiling to be kicked off?’ But it’s the doing of it really that is the interesting thing.” Ken, 71, was born at Chorley Hospital but moved around a lot as a child.

It was when he started working on Coronation Street in 1989 that he decided to return to the borough. As well as playing Reg, he is known for his roles as General Leopold von Flockenstuffen in the BBC war sitcom ’Allo ’Allo and in adverts for Safestyle windows.

More recently, he appeared in ITV1’s Benidorm and was a contestant in Celebrity MasterChef last year.
