Chlamydia tests beat the target
Almost 14,000 young people across Lancashire have been tested for chlamydia in the past year.
NHS Central Lancashire has carried out a total of 13,844 tests on youngsters aged between 15 and 24 between April 2008 and March 2009 after the Government set a target of around 10,000.
Carolyn Blythe, who works for the chlamydia screening programme, said: "To not only reach the target but exceed it is fantastic and down to the hard work of all our staff.
"This is an important programme, promoting healthy and safe relationships between young people, and encouraging young people to take responsibility for their sexual health."
The trust is ranked 12th across the UK for chlamydia testing and number one in NW.
Chlamydia is a bacteria and is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the UK which affects up to one-in- ten young men and women leading to possible infertility and long-term health problems.
