A charity has just been given 200,000 extra reasons to toast the New Year.
Homestart Morecambe and Lancaster has been awarded £200,000 in National Lottery funding.
This means Homestart can now expand its services and help even more families who need support during difficult times.
The charity, based on Morecambe Street, has 40 volunteers who offer professional support, advice and friendship to over 60 Morecambe and Lancaster families with children under 11 in times of need and distress.
They work closely with professional partners and agencies including the local children’s centres in Poulton, Heysham, Balmoral and Westgate and Firbank in Lancaster.
Peter Dowbiggin, chair of the trustees, said: “We can now expand our services and reach out to many more families with young children who are not always obvious and on the radar but need support, help and friendship during some very hard times, particularly in a time of unemployment, high domestic violence levels, food banks and many other serious issues that will have an effect on very young children, in a lot of cases a long standing effect.”
