A community centre run by volunteers is appealing for help in keeping warm.
Halton Community Centre in Halton, near Lancaster, are the latest community group to apply for the Evening Post’s competition to win £5,000 of repairs with HomeServe.
Due to high demand, the deadline for entries for the competition has now been extended to February 15.
The community centre, on High Road, was built in the 1970s to provide services for the village and is a registered charity.
A massive fundraising mission starting in 2008, which eventually raised enough money for a new annexe to be built at the centre.
The annexe was officially opened in 2010.
But the team of volunteers still need help replacing radiators and installing an instant hot water boiler.
Maureen Richardson, part-time manager and volunteer fundraiser at Halton Community Association, said: “The centre is managed by a small team of dedicated volunteers who have turned a building that was near closure into a vibrant space for the whole community.
“Lack of funds mean that we still need to replace radiators in the hall and install an instant hot water boiler.”
Homeserve provides cover packages for a range of home emergencies and is offering £5,000 worth of work for repairs including leaky roofs or problem pipes.
The closing date for entries is now Friday, February 15.
Divisional promotions manager Sue Bentley said: “Due to the high interest from local charities, community projects and community groups for the Evening Post’s HomeServe competition, we are extending the deadline for the local community to complete and return all nominations.”
