When Cathy Price set herself a challenge to visit every Red Lion pub in the country some wondered if she would ever make it.

But now the personal trainer from Walton-le-Dale, near Preston, has passed another huge milestone in her journey - she has visited more than 400 watering holes.

Cathy, 54, said: “It’s exciting to know that I am over two thirds through the challenge.

“I will look forwards to celebrating three years Red Lioning on the April 9 this year hopefully at some Red Lions.

“I am looking forwards to the challenge of Red Lion Guernsey and Red Lion in the International Departure Lounge Gatwick airport.”

Cathy added: “I expect to reach my 500th before October this year and will enjoy Kent and the coast in the summer months.”

The 400th Red Lion pub Cathy visited was in Stretham.

Recently Cathy’s journey has taken her to Leek and Boundary in Staffordshire, and Hinxton in Cambridge.

Cathy has now visited 416 of more than 600 Red Lions in the country. She has also visited nine abroad - four of them in Australia.

She said: “Leek is a lovely market town, I went with two Australian lads, one the son of a friend of mine.

“He is here for a year doing some travelling and loves the Red Lion outings.

“I went to stay with his mum in Melbourne September 2013 and we did 4 Australian Red Lions, Geelong Ballarat, Kilmore and Melbourne Central.”

Cathy takes notes on all the pubs she visits, and has her photo taken at each one.

She hopes that eventually she will be able to publish a book about her journey.

The challenge also inspired her to transform her garage into a Red Lion bar.
