Cash up for grabs for sports and arts

OFFER: Robert Thompson

OFFER: Robert Thompson

Cash is up for grabs for equipment and tuition by young sportsmen and women and performance artists.

Ribble Valley Council’s 2013 sports and arts excellence grants scheme helps youngsters excel in sport, dance, drama and music.

The scheme has supported numerous young people at county and national level over the years, including London Olympic silver medallist Samantha Murray and bronze medallist Jon Schofield.

Robert Thompson, chairman of the council’s community services committee, said: “The biggest issue for young people and their parents in pursuing their chosen activity is the cost of instruction, transport and equipment.

“We hope that by providing support towards these costs, young people will be able to reach their full potential.”

The grants will be awarded from April. The deadline for applications is February 1.

Application packs are available from the council’s administration officer, Olwen Heap, on 01200 414408.
