CHARITY: Simon Naylor from Bowker Preston presents a cheque for 11,200, proceeds from the annual Sir Tom Finney Tribute Dinner, to trustees of the Sir Tom Finney Trust Brian Finney and Peter Mason the chairman of the Sir Tom Finney Soccer Centre

The inaugural Tom Finney Tribute Dinner raised more than £11,000.

The dinner, back in June, was hailed an overwhelming success as more than 200 people gathered at Deepdale to remember Preston’s greatest ever player.

And now the funds raised from the evening have been handed over to the Sir Tom Finney Trust.

The Trust has the aim of fulfilling Sir Tom’s legacy of making sure children are involved in football.

The proceeds will be used to help with the running costs of the Sir Tom Finney Soccer Centre – one of the many charitable organisations which the great man supported during his life.

The tribute dinner is set to become an annual event, with a different charity set to benefit each year.

Next year the dinner will be working to support the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) charity.

Preston North End and England legend Sir Tom passed away on Valentine’s Day this year, aged 91.
