Preston city centre exploded with colour on Sunday afternoon as the annual Caribbean Carnival got under way.

Thousands of people descended on Preston’s Moor Park and the Flag Market for the 41st staging of the event.

Organisers have been asking spectators to make a small donation to help raise funds for next year’s event.

Chairman of the Carnival committee, Elaine Webb, said: “I don’t think that people realise that the parade that they come to see represents the hard work and dance practice that the young people have put in for months leading up to the event and this is their only opportunity to show it off to the community of Preston. Preston needs culture and entertainment so we really hope we will be able to keep the parade going next year too but we need your help.”

See Monday’s Lancashire Evening Post for lots more pictures from the event.
