Memories of Preston’s Guild 2012, are set to be locked away in a special capsule and you could be part of it.
UCLan Product Designer, Mark Newton, 21, won a competition to design the capsule, which features a piece of artwork showcasing the city’s skyline, and now the capsule needs to be filled with memories and items relating to Preston Guild 2012, and Preston Council need you to help.
Mark, who lives near Lancaster, said: “The capsule was designed to incorporate the iconic Preston bus station.
“The ribs down the side are meant to reflect the style of the bus station so that, should it be demolished in the next 20 years, there will be something to pay tribute to it.
“And the cityscape will be able to be compared to how the city will look in 2032.”
Mayor of Preston, Councillor Nick Pomfret, said: “I think the capsule is a great idea.
“It will help capture what an amazing event Preston Guild 2012 was.
“It’s exciting how Preston will look in 2032 and what people will think about the items in the capsule, as time will have moved on so much.”
On August 30, a community day will be held on Preston’s Flag Market between 10am and 3pm, where people can bring their items to fill the capsule which will then be locked, not to be opened until the city’s next Guild event in 2032.
And along with bringing items for the capsule, there will also be a wish tree, where people can write their memories, paint a picture, write a poem or submit a photograph of your best Guild memory on a label before adding it to the branches of the tree.
People can upload pictures and ideas for items to add to the capsule on the event’s Facebook page by searching for ‘Guild Time Capsule Event’.
