Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans is calling for more support for ex-police dogs.
He threw his weight behind the Retired Police Dogs Benevolent Fund at a recent fundraising event with the charity’s founder.
Mr Evans said: “When a police dog is retired from active service there is no financial support in place to ensure that they are looked after.
“They are wonderfully effective in the fight against all sorts of crime, from antisocial behaviour and protecting officers from violent criminals to the detection of drugs.
“Police dogs perform a great public service and they ought to be looked after in their retirement just like anybody else retiring from the police force would expect to be.”
He added: “I hope that people will consider finding a home for these loyal public servants and support the charity.”
