People living in Lancashire are being asked to help look after their local historic waterways, by joining one of a number of monthly volunteering teams.

The call comes from the Canal and River Trust – the charity that cares for 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales – which is recruiting people to a number of its Towpath Taskforce teams.

The Trust is holding a number of events across Lancashire over the coming weeks, including

· Wigan, April 14 and 21

- Blackburn, April 24

- Preston, April 16

Taskforce teams carry out a wide variety of jobs including planting wildflowers and bulbs, clearing overgrowth, painting the locks and cutting back overhanging vegetation from the towpath.

People are able to drop-in on the day.
