Call for raffle and auction prizes to be donated for event

Charity: Ross McWilliam and Brian Nelson are appealing for auction and raffle prizes

Charity: Ross McWilliam and Brian Nelson are appealing for auction and raffle prizes

Tickets for a fundraising dinner in aid of the crisis-hit Space Centre have sold out - but organisers are calling on members of the public to donate auction and raffle prizes for the event.

The dinner at Longridge Golf Club has been organised by businessman Brian Nelson.

Brian, of Grimsargh-based Red Rose Blinds, Curtains and Interiors, has vowed to dedicate all his events this year to the Space Centre.

The charity night on March 30 is a sell out, with all the tickets being snapped up within days - but more raffle prizes are needed.

Brian said: “We sold 100 tickets within three or four days, there is so much interest in the actual charity, everybody knows somebody who knows somebody who uses it so they all want to help.

“We are looking for anything anybody wants to give, anything that will sell.

“The more we can get, the more we can sell, the more we can make.”

The Space Centre in Pedders Lane, Ashton, provides unique care and respite for adults and children with all types of disability.

A funding shortfall has suspended its expansion plans and threatened the centre’s future altogether.

Closure could leave disabled people, their carers and families without a crucial leisure and learning resource.

Since the shortfall was revealed a Save our Space Centre campaign has been launched. The businesses that form the committee are car dealer Bowker BMW, Preston Marina, solicitors Tandem Law, manufacturer Paper Innovation and events company, Today Can Be Better.

Since then a host of events have taken place to ensure it can survive.

Events include Space Aid - a two-in-one day of concerts and the successful Onesie Day which saw people don their pyjamas for the cause.

Ross McWilliam from the Save our Space committee said: “I was amazed at how fast the ball tickets sold out.

“This is testimony not only to the great cause at Space, but also the enthusiasm of Brian Nelson at Red Rose Blinds and Curtains.

“Brian got behind the project of fundraising straightaway, and his impact has been instantaneous.

“As he is now dedicating 2013 to fundraising for Space, he has decided to host a summer Space Golf Day.”

If you are able to donate an auction or raffle prize call Brian Nelson on 07831196206 or Ross McWilliam on 07771916788.
