A CHARITY will host a series of events at Deepdale Shopping Park this week.
The British Heart Foundation, which launched its biggest stock donation appeal this month, is urging shoppers to join in and bag up their unwanted things.
The Great British Bag-athon is BHF shops biggest stock donation campaign, aiming to raise 1 million bags of unwanted things throughout September. Every bag filled is a bag full of life-saving research.
Between Friday and Sunday this week volunteers will be at Deepdale Shopping Park giving out stock donation bags and asking shoppers to fill bags with unwanted clothes, books, homewares, toys, CDs, and DVDs, and bring them back to the drop off point at the shopping centre or take them to their nearest BHF shop.
After the event at the shopping centre has ended, filled bags can still be donated to the Great British Bag-athon at any BHF shop.
Colin Gilligan, manager of Deepdale Shopping Park, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Great British Bag-athon by holding a stock donation event. It’s the perfect opportunity to have a clear out and donate any unwanted items, raising vital funds to support those in our community who are living with heart disease.
“If you’re feeling competitive you can even take on a bag filling challenge. Simply set a target and ask your friends, family, neighbours or work colleagues to pledge bags and bring them along to our event. You can even register online at bhf.org.uk/bagathon to find out more and see yourself in the national league table.”
British Heart Foundation area manager, Ann Lomas added: “We’d like to urge the people of Preston to help us reach our target of 1 million bags by coming along to these events between 20-22 September and donating their bagfulls. Coronary Heart Disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and every bag you fill is a bag full of life-saving research. Every donation really makes a difference.”
