Chef Paul Heathcote believes there could be more to come from the scandal surrounding horse meet in the food industry.

The restaurateur, who runs the Olive Press and Heathcotes Brasserie on Winckley Square, Preston, said he had been told by an unnamed source there is “more to come out” on the scandal.

On Monday, environment secretary Owen Paterson called for faster action from European leaders on introducing country-of-origin labelling for processed beef and other meat products.

Mr Heathcote said: “I had a conversation with someone in the industry last week and he told me that when the latest news came out he thought there was more to come.

“There are only three big suppliers to the large retailers in the country and I think there could me more problems yet.”
