Fylde MP Mark Menzies visited a number of independent shops in the constituency to show his support for Small Business Saturday.

Last weekend saw the UK’s first ever event celebrated across the UK and the Member of Parliament popped into an independent sweet shop, book shop and clothing store in St Annes and spoke to staff about the challenges faced by high street traders in the run-up to Christmas.

He visited Sweet Memories in the Square where he met owner Paul Fury.

Mr Menzies alos visited Storytellers, Inc, on the Crescent, and the Cube clothing store.

Mr Menzies said: “We are blessed with many independent shops and traders locally and I always make sure to use them for my shopping needs whenever I can.

“If we don’t shop in these stores they won’t be there for much longer and our town centres will suffer hugely without them. By shopping local we can make sure our money stays within our communities and the knock on effect of that has benefits for us all.

“That is why I support events such as Small Business Saturday and organisations like the Federation of Small Businesses.”
