Round-up of traffic news in Lancashire
Road users travelling in the North West, North East, and the Midlands regions are being advised to check the weather forecast and road conditions before they travel up to 6pm today because of high winds.
The Highways Agency has issued an Amber warning and has asked drivers of high-sided vehicles, caravans and motorbikes to take extra care due to the increased risk of vehicles being blown over.
Drivers are advised to plan for their journey before they set out, checking the forecast and road conditions, to leave extra time if travel conditions are poor, and to delay their journey if the weather becomes severe.
Motorists are also advised that changes to the roadworks on the M5/M6 link, between junctions 8 and 7 of the M6 motorway, will be in place ahead of the morning peak period on Monday, February 4.
From that date, the M5 northbound to M6 southbound link road will be reduced to one lane for approximately 500 yards on the approach to Junction 8.
Restrictions will be in place for three weeks until February 25.
The planned lane closure is for gantry works as part of the M6 J5 to J8 managed motorway upgrade scheme.
Road users heading from the M5 northbound to the M6 southbound are advised to plan ahead, as the temporary reduction in lanes on the link road is expected to add time to their journeys.
There will also be a series of weekend overnight closures of the M6 between junctions 5 and 8 from Friday, February 1, over eight consecutive weekends continuing until Saturday, March 23. The agency will dismantle and remove existing gantries, and to install new ones.
On the M18 southbound between junctions J5 and J4, there are currently delays of 15 minutes due to heavy traffic. Normal traffic conditions are expected from 4.45pm.
The A628 westbound is closed between the junctions with the A616 and the A57, due to an incident. Road is expected to re-open from 6pm. The A628 eastbound is also closed between the junctions with the A57 and the A616.On the M1 southbound between junctions J37 and J36, there are currently delays of 10 minutes due to an accident closing one lane. Normal traffic conditions expected from 4.45pm.
Chapel Street in Galgate is closed northbound between the Stoney Lane junction and the Chapel Lane junction, because of an obstruction on the road.
The A677 Higher Eanam / Copy Nook in Blackburn is busy but moving at the Higher Audley Street traffic lights junction.
The A585 Amounderness Way in Poulton-Le-Fylde is busy but moving at River Wyre Roundabout.
There is slow traffic on A6 Ring Way in Preston at the A6063 Church Street traffic lights junction.
