A Preston man who published a survival guide to living away from home has taken it to an audience of millions.

Tony Slater, who first published So You’re Leaving Home... five years ago, has linked up with local IT businessman Ben Darlington to take the guide on to the web.

It offers advice on everything from how to cook simple meals through to car maintenance and the website provides people the opportunity to add their own knowledge to the guide.

Mr Darlington, who runs One Click Web Marketing, based in Preston, said the website had been built with the intention of creating a community to offer advice to people moving away from home for the first time.

He said: “It is about drawing together knowledge from people all over the world in one place, it is a Survival Wikipedia.

“A lot of people have made mistakes and by bringing these people together we can help others.”

Mr Slater, of Fulwood, Preston, said he wanted the information in the guide to get to as wide an audience as possible.

He said: “The more people I can help, the better.”

The website is available at www.leavinghome.net.
