Slot machine firm announces bumper profits
A Lancashire leisure firm which completed a takeover of a rival firm has reported bumper profits.
Sceptre Leisure, which has fruit machines, juke boxes and pool tables in pubs and clubs across Britain, saw operating profit rise four-fold from 400,000 to 1.7m in the six months to October last year.
It also announced on Thursday gross profit soared from 1.2m to 4.8m, revenue rose three-fold to 18.5m and cash generating from operations went up from 2.9m to 4.7m.
The group, which has its head office on Brookfield Place in Walton Summit, near Bamber Bridge, completed the takeover of listed leisure firm Gamingking in September.
Chief executive Ken Turner said: "We have a great opportunity to reap benefit from the strengths of Sceptre and Gamingking and the crossmarketing of those into each of their marketplaces.
"ur rental model is resilient, market consolidation is benefiting us and the recent news on increased stakes and prizes will provide impetus."
The group now operates around 20,000 machines across the country and has plans to roll out its Lotteryking and Kelly's Eye bingo, which currently sell in social clubs, to the pub market.
