A pair of young apprentices have had the graduation ceremony of a lifetime – a flight in the back seat of a jet used to train the world’s elite pilots.
Nathan Hughes, 23, and Oliver Dry, 21, got a ride in the back seat of a Hawk trainer jet over the skies of RAF Valley in North Wales, following in the footsteps of the RAF up-and-coming pilots.
The pair have just completed their three-year apprenticeships with BAE Systems and have spent the final six months of their training in the Hawk manufacturing line at Warton.
Nathan, of Walton-le-Dale, near Preston, described the flight as “the opportunity of a lifetime”.
Nathan and Oliver, of Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, said the opportunity to speak with the pilots had given them a great insight.
