The Flower Bowl is an exciting £8m leisure complex being built next to the Barton Grange Garden Centre in Brock, north of Preston. Facilities will include a four sheet curling rink, luxury Ten Pin Bowling, a three-screen cinema, an all-weather crazy golf course and two golf simulators. There will also be two eating places, one of which will be a fish and chip restaurant. It will have a grass roof to blend in with the rural location.

What is the latest?

Construction has now been underway for more than three months. Groundworks began in May and were completed in mid-July. Now the steel frame of the building is being put in place.

When will it be finished?

Barton Grange bosses are aiming to have a grand opening in late spring next year, weather permitting.

What will it bring to the local economy?

In addition to at least 80 new jobs locally, the centre is expected to attract visitors from far and wide, with the curling rink being only the second in the whole of England. It is hoped it will be a centre of excellence where champions of the future will be coached.

How is the project going?

Barton Grange MD Guy Topping says it will bring “much needed entertainment and leisure facilities to the area.” He added: “Even though we’ve been working on this for many months, it always seems more exciting once you can see the structure actually taking shape. Behind the scenes we’re designing the interior of the building, to give it the same ‘wow factor’ that has helped make our garden centre such a success.” The Flower Bowl will be a single storey building adjacent to the popular garden centre just off the A6. Its environmentally friendly grass roof might eventually have sheep grazing on it.
