Preston city council adds to waste fleet

Preston City Council has selected waste management systems manufacturer FAUN Zoeller for a contract to supply three brand new refuse collection vehicles (RCVs).

The council has invested in the vehicles, from the company’s Variopress range, to replace trucks that are around nine years old and have begun to show significant signs of wear .

Being one of the most technologically advanced RCVs on the market, they are designed to make waste collection rounds quieter and more environmentally friendly.

Mark Taylor, Head of Clean Environment at Preston City Council, said: “After a competitive tender for the vehicles last year, we chose FAUN Zoeller’s Variopress vehicles because they are the best value for money for our requirements.

“They will be replacing our current vehicles which are and around nine years old. There will be benefits to residents as the Variopress vehicles are quieter and emit less pollution, and benefits to the environment as the new vehicles are more fuel-efficient, meaning our drivers will have to take less trips to the waste disposal plant.”
