Two of the North West’s best-known family automotive dealers have joined forces.
Lancashire-based Bowker Motor Group has acquired Southport Superbikes, on Eastbank Street in Southport, marking an exciting new chapter for the 34-year old Merseyside BMW Motorcycle dealership – and safeguarding numerous local jobs.
Bowker Motor Group already owns nine dealerships, including BMW, MINI and Maserati franchises in Blackburn, Preston and Osbaldeston.
Southport Superbikes becomes the tenth, joining Harley-Davidson Preston as the second prestige motorcycle dealership in the group.
Bowker Motor Group chief executive Paul Bowker said: “Southport Superbikes has been an outstanding dealership for over 30 years. It’s well-known to me and the North West biking community for its commitment to customer service and a genuine passion for BMW motorcycles.
“We are both family businesses and share many of the same commercial values.
“Southport Superbikes is a welcome addition, and a perfect fit with the other dealerships in the Bowker Motor Group. It’s an important acquisition during an ambitious period of investment for us, and we see Southport Superbikes making a significant contribution to the group’s future success.”
Geraldine Bowers-Lyon, Gillian Forshaw and Mike Dinsdale, of Southport Superbikes, will retain hands-on roles in the business.
Geraldine said: “This is a wonderful deal for Southport Superbikes’ business, staff and customers. We’re joining a group with an enviable award-winning reputation in the world of prestige motor retailing.
“Customers will enjoy the same personal attention from the same staff they always did – but now backed up by the Bowker Motor Group.”
In June, Bowker BMW on the docks in Preston opened its new expanded and refurbished dealership after an investment of over £1 million.
The two-phase development, announced last August, has delivered additional showroom capacity to accommodate 16 more cars and 34 in total.
