Festive boost: The park and ride at Portway in Preston

Preston’s Park and Ride facilities are opening late this month to help people take some of the hassle out of Christmas shopping.

The sites at Walton Le Dale and Portway are operating extended opening hours for late night shopping. Passengers can catch the last bus from the city back to their car at 9.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays until Christmas, and also on Friday, December 20 and Monday, December 23.

Lancashire County Council said there were also extra buses on Sunday with services running every 15 minutes from 10.30am to 5.30pm. Mark Whittle, Preston Business Improvement District (BID) marketing and events manager, said

He said: “It’s pleasing that Preston Bus have chosen to extend their Park and Ride service across key-dates. The service, which serves the city centre well, will assist us in encouraging people to visit and spend in the city centre. Preston is one of the easiest locations to get to in terms of its civic centre, but this will make it even easier.”

If passengers are travelling by bus over the festive period, they have also been advised to look out for a free Christmas and New Year bus services leaflet, which contains useful information about all bus services in Lancashire.

The leaflet is available at county information centres. People can also download the leaflet and find more about park and ride services at www.lancashire.gov.uk. Traveline is open every day apart from Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, so passengers can call to find out about public transport services in Lancashire and beyond on 0871 200 22 33.
