A new Lancashire-based energy is to launch next week with a pledge to take on the ‘big six’ firms for deals.

Managing director Luke Watson said that Broughton-based GB Energy will make a commitment to passing on savings to its customers.

His pledge comes at a time when falling oil prices have forced energy giants to cut their tariffs.

Luke, who lives in Barton near Preston, set up GB energy after years of experience in the energy sector and has been working towards the launch for almost 12 months.

He said: “In addition to our low prices one of the benefits for customers in Lancashire is that we are based in the county – if they want to pop in and see us they are very welcome.

“But we are making it easy for them to choose us as a supplier by offering an on-line switching service that is simple and quick. Once they registered their interest the switching process will be triggered and within three to four weeks they will have a new supplier.”

Luke, a father of two who was brought up in Preesall, said that GB Energy would not, however, be available through switching sites, which he said do not always come up with the cheapest deal.

He said: “Our aim is to help customers cut their household bills at a time when other essential costs like food are going through the roof.”
